Dick & John had planned to head out to Growling Frog & I tagged along. I must say I love this course. The fairways are immaculity & the greens are prestine. I wish they were paying me to say this but they aren’t. Once you get off the fairways you are in mud at the moment but let’s face it, you are supposed to be on the fairway. This course is great for me & John, he hooks & I slice. The fairways are very open so if your shot lands on the fairway your doing OK.
The weather didn’t play fair today, but you feel like a complete ass complaining that it’s raining. We had to pull the pin after 9 holes, which gutted Dick & John who were loving the course, because it was just too wet. It bucketed down on the 9th green which sealed our fate.
We will be back. Both of the newbies are very keen to get back out there, unfortunatley we wont have the great deal we got with the guide as it was a one off.
As for the game, I hate to blow my own trumpet but I have to mention the 7th. I finished up with a par after being in the bunker off the tee & then again in the greenside bunker after my third. The one putt par is the saviour of the hacker
Neil has arranged for a round out at Ringwood on Thursday. Click here to see our review of the course. Leave a comment here or drop me an email if you want to come along.
After the crappy day on Thursday, Friday was magnificent. A beautiful clear day with a slight breeze.
We headed off to Keilor, we being Me, Dick, Neil, Stan, Stans son & Stans father in-law. We got there to find half the course was closed. The back 9 is closed to convert the fairways to couch. From what I can tell, when the back 9 is finished they will do the front 9 so Keilor is a 9 holer for the foreseeable future. That aside the course was in great condition. Neil was too keen on the 1st tee, he didn’t get past the ladies on 2 attempts
We had a great day out & a nice chat over a drink afterwards. Thanks for arranging this one Stan.
Cheers
Cary
Stan has taken the bull by the horns & picked a day & a place. Keilor on Friday the 17th of November at around midday. If you are intersted in joining us drop me a line Cary@golfinmelbourne.com or leave a comment.
Cheers
With these sentiments in mind, Neil & I ducked off to Strathallen for a 9 holes after work. Thank you for daylight savings. Things didn’t start off too well when we got there, Neil had left the handle for his buggy at home. After contemplating pulling the pin, Neil tried half of his club lock & it worked like a charm. I glad that it did, days like this are what golf was invented for. Beautiful clear sky’s with just a slight breeze.
Considering how dry it has been & the lack of water this course has, it is in surprising good condition. The fairways are a little thin in places but generally OK. I thought the grass on the greens were a little long, (or I might have been looking for an excuse for my poor first putts) Neil disagreed as per normal
In the end the rounds weren’t too bad, both of us hitting some nice shots & some poor ones. I hit a spanker of a tee shot on the 7th hole which left me scratching mind head thinking “What did I do differently???”
I have been invited to join a friend of GolfinMelbourne.com up at Ballarat for a round of golf. There are a couple of course on offer up there, if any one want’s to join us drop me a line @ Cary@golfinmelbourne.com or leave a comment on this post. We are looking at heading up there in about 2 weeks time.
I’m off to play at Bundoora tomorrow (8/11) around 11-12 o’clock. If anyone want’s to join me give me a call or drop me a line. If I leave it to anyone else nothing will get done
Neil & I went out to Bundoora for a bit a of tune up for our end of season trip. Nobody else was interested & Trevor had to work. Shane gets a left off because he wife just gave birth, as far as excuses go that one is pretty good. GolfinMelbourne & all it’s members would like to wish Shane & Steph & little Tyson all the best.
The day couldn’t have been any better. Perfect blue skies no wind & around 20 odd degrees. Golf weather at it’s best.
To the game. Today would have to the best I have seen Neil chip ever!!!! He had one chip in & three or four that went with in a bees dick. He’s short game was looking fantastic, not good news for those of us playing up at Tocumwal in a couple of weeks.
My game was a little hit & miss. Thankfully I only three putted 2 or three times which a vast improvement over the last time I played. My drives still don’t like the fairways, the have a tendency to get as far away from the middle as possible.
The course was in fantastic condition. The new fairways at Bundoora have come in quite nicely. There are a few bare patches & a couple of spots were the weeds are coming through but all in all the place is starting to come good. The greens were a little hard to read at times but they run pretty true if you got them on the right line.
The cost of the day was $22 for the 18 holes was isn’t too bad at all. There were quite a few people about today, one thing that was a bit annoying was the when we finished the 9th there was 4 groups starting off the 10th. The groups in front of us were more than happy for us to play through. The whole point of them starting off the 10th pissed me off a bit.
Today was a fantastic day, it’s days like this that make you really enjoy getting out & playing golf. Bring on summer
I’ve booked a group of 4 for 11 o’clock on Saturday the 16th of September at Bundoora. Let me know if you want to join us, drop me an email of leave a comment. If you’re like me you’ll want to get in a little practise before the trip away
