Yarrambat on the 11th

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

We had a group of 6 head out to Yarrambat on Saturday morning. Neil, Shane, Trevor, Stan Matt & myself wandered on down, John had to pull out at the last minute after doing hsi back 🙁 Having watched the weather forcast all week I was pleasantly surprised when Saturday rolled around & the day turned out great 🙂 The course was in pretty good nick, a little wet under foot but still pretty good.

I had a half decent round coming in a pair of 47’s tieing with Matt for the low score.

Stan had the comment of the day. On the par 4 9th there is a small dam about 100 meters from the tee. Shane duffed his tee shot & finished in fromt of the dam. Stan said “Good idea to lay up before the water” Had me chuckling for the rest of the day 🙂

9 Holes after work

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Neil & I headed out to Strathallan golf course for a quick 9 after work. I had to duck out early otherwise we wouldn’t have made it. As it turns out we only just finished up before it got dark. The course is in great nick, the fairways & the greens are well looked after. If you are looking for a qucik 9 holes you can’t go past this place. Neil gave me a bit of a touch up this round. I think from Memory he had 4 pars & a birdie & flogged me by about 6 shots. Well done Neil, I’ll get you next time 🙂

Keilor Public Golf Course

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Neil, Matt & myself headed out to Keilor on another magnificent Melbourne Autumn day. We have had such great weather lately but I’m sure it will come to a crashing halt shortly 🙂
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Keilor & they have done a fair bit of work in that time. They have constructed a number of fairway bunkers on the front 9, the place looks great. A nice flat track with great fairways & nice greens. The course was a fantastic condition & when you jump on the freeway not that far away.
I had a nice front 9 with a few pars but fell away on the second 9. Matt picked up where I left off on the back 9 & between us we have a great score card 🙂 Neil had a ……… well Neil had a nice day 😉

19th Hole: Yes

Web address: Mornington Golf Course

Neil, Trevor Ian & myself went out to Mornington on what can only be described as a perfect day for golf. Bright sunshine, no wind & a pleasant mid 20’s.
The first tee greets you right next to the proshop with a nice wide open fairway with a slight dogleg to the right. A nice gentle way to start your round :) The course keeps the friendly attitude for the majority of your round at one of the most beautiful courses Melbourne has to offer. The ocean views & rolling hills & just a fantastic way to spend the day.  Some of the great holes on the course would be the 4 4th. You start off with a narrow drive area that just opens up to another wide open fairway. You make your way up the hill to the first of many greens with an ocean view. Another hole of note on the front 9 would be 6th.  A 350 meter uphill par 4 which has you grateful or wishing for a cart. Again, you are presented with  another spectacular ocean view from the green.
The back nine begins with the 164 metre par 3. With trees on either side of the tee box you have to keep your tee shot straight. One of the most beautiful holes on the course would have to be the par 5 15th. With bunker lined fairways, scrub to the right it is a tough hole, but again it makes life easier when you have a fantastic view.
Once the round is finished you can quench your thirst at the club house which looks back down the 18th & over the 10th tee. A great way to finish off a great round.

Yarrambat on the 6th of March

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Neil, Ian, John & myself heading out to Yarrambat on a perfect Melbourne afternoon. We had a 1 o’clock tee time & conditions could have been better. The course is in great nick, the greens had been cored about a week & 1/2 ago so there was still sand & holes on the green but it allowed you to give the ball a bit of a wack when putting. It’s been a few months since I’ve played here & I still love the course. The kangaroos were out in force which always makes for plesant round. Neil is getting over his knee injury & my ankles were playing up so we were a funny sight see hobling around the course 🙂 The game itself was an interesting on, Neil started the round perfectly with a birdie on the first, but he was upstaged for the highlight of the day by Ian. On the par 5 7th, Ian put the ball in the hole from about 155 metres out. It was an awesome shot 🙂

Kilmore with the RSL

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Had my first hit out for the year with the Epping RSL on Sunday. We headed out to Kilmore, which like a lot of the country has coped a fair bit of rain over the last few weeks. The ground staff hadn’t had a chnace to mow the greens for a little bit so they were a little furrier than normal 😉 Funny thing is, I had my best day with the putter for a long time, winning the least putts for the day with 29. It was hot day with little or no breeze & I was struggling by the 18th yet somehow managered to finish the day par, par. It was good to get back out again & it’s always nice to play with the RSL & Kilmore course was in pretty good condition.

Flinders Golf Course

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

The weather forecast for the day was pretty terrible a couple of days before hand but I’m glad we didn’t call it off. The day was perfect 🙂 We had blue skies with a slight breeze & I couldn’t have asked for more.

Let me start off by saying this was one of the most enjoyable games of golf I have had in a while. The course delivered what it promised & at one of the most reasonable prices going on the Peninsula. It also offers some of the best ocean views of any of the courses that I have played in Victoria. To top this off, the staff were friendly, helpful & very accomodating.

The courses starts off with a short par 4 with well placed bunkers, the bunkering at this course is great, making for some interesting club selections. The sand in the first bunker was a little hard but after that they were pretty good. The greens were top notch, the fairways were close to perfect. It took me 4 holes to find a fairway but when I did hit one they were a pleasure to play off 😉

There are some spectacular holes here at Flinders, none better than the 4th (The Coffin) & the 5th (The Beach Hole) which are played right along the cliff tops offering magnificent views.

I couldn’t have asked for a better day, great friends, great course, great weather an all round fantastic birthday 🙂

St Andrews Beach

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Ian, Neil, Min & myself headed out to St Andrews Beach on a day that didn’t look too promising at all. Although we were looking forward to playing a course ranked in the top 10 in Australia, the weather wasn’t playing fair 🙁

The day was windy & wet, at one point during the round we were pummled by hail stones, nearly blown off our feet, drowned in a down pour & bathed in sunshine. We had the lot. It wasn’t the worst conditions that I have ever played in but it came close.

The course was surprising right from the carpark. Maybe I built it up a little too much in mind before we got there, but compared to other courses around the same area it is understated to say the least. The clubhouse is just a small shop with a marque style balcony out the front for the 19th hole. Nothing wrong with it, it does the job, but I was expecting along the same lines as Cape Shanck or Eagle Ridge.

The course was along the same lines as the clubhouse. Maybe I was expecting too much. The course was challanging & to quote the Club Pro “Not for beginners”. It is a wide open Links style course where you get punished from vering off the fairways. The greens were fantastic, a consistant speed on all of the them & they run true. From a distance (i.e. the tee) they look a lot bigger than the actually are. The bunkers are placed in perfect positions to catch your ball. Min found himself in a number of bunker, it was out of the ordinary when he went a hole without landing in one 😉 The quality of the bunkers was great, the sand was great, this made even more impressive considering the amout of rain the we had prior to our round.

There wasn’t a stand out a hole, one that you would consider a signature hole. Most were nothing special to look at but there were a couple that looked brilliant. The 18th was a great way to finish the round.

Ian had a new set of clubs that he was trying out for the first time so he was a little wayward. Neil was up & down but he was the first to get a par & the only one to grab a birdie. This was Min first hit since Werribie but he hit some wonderful drives. My game was like Neils, up & down but I did have a purple patch in the middle with 4 straight pars. This was offset but the 9, the 8 & the 7 🙁

All up the day was a little dissapointing, mostly caused by the weather. It’s not a course I would rush back to play

I’ve add some photos that we took. You can check them out here

Broadford with the RSL

Monday, July 26th, 2010

We headed up to Broadford on Sunday for a hit with the RSL. We were supposed to play at Mt Durmit but they put their prices up & it was a little too much for the RSL.

We played a different format this time, one is wasn’t familiar with. American Foursomes. The way it works is you both tee off, your partner plays your second shot & you play his. Then you choose a ball to play & alternate until the ball is in the hole. Puts a little bit more pressure on your shots knowing someone else will have a play the results of each of your shot 🙄 As it happens I dragged Bob down to my level of play & we proceeded to 3 putt (& a 4 putt) our way around the course. Neil & Jimmy on the other hand blitz’s the comp, coming in with a net 59 to win by about 7 shots 😯

It was a cool start to the day, 2 degrees on the first tee, but the day turned pretty nice. The sun even came out a couple of time 🙂

Heathcote with the RSL

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

The morning didn’t start well. Sitting in the RSL carpark at 6:15 in the morning, it’s raining & it’s freezing, & I’m thinking to myslef “What the hell are we doing????. We must be out of our minds”. When we got to Heathcote it was all good. The sun was out & there wasn’t a breath of wind, still cold but a lot more bearable than Epping. The course was in pretty good nick. The greens were surprisling fast. I though with the amount of dew & frost in same cases that they would be slow, but no. I had a couple of shocking holes, I finsihed with a 9 on one hole after putting my tee shot out of bounds & then following that up with one under a shrub. I had 3 3 putts on the front but some how managered to come in with 18 putts for the front 37 in total. The best putts for the day was an amazing 25. It was a good day out at a nice country course 🙂
