Keilor golf course game

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Cary, Dick and myself ( Neil ) went out for a game of golf today at the Keilor Golf Course ( 07/09/2006 ). On our trip out there it  wasn’t looking to good , less then halfway there it started to rain but by the time we got there it had stopped. We desided to play and when got to the 2nd or 3rd Tee it started to rain again, well it was more like a drizzle. This happened on and off during the day, in total it rained for about 6 holes out of the 18 that we played. All in all it was a good game. It’s not a challenging course but it’s an enjoyable one to get out and play for a friendly game, laugh and a geer or more. On the front 9 the greens had just been aerated and a fair bit of sand dumped on them witch helped with your putting, thats what I think anyway, Iwas 2 putting and the odd 1 put instead of 3 and 4 putting. Once again I will have to appoligise for my language, but you should be use to it by now…. The fairways where in good condition, and the greens on the back 9 were in good nick, especially after all the rain we had. All in all we had a good day, enjoyed our round of golf  in good company. I would like to also mention that I was the only one to get 2 pars for the day, but of course I am not one to brag. On that note I look forward to meeting you all on our next round of golf……

Keilor Golf course 25th of August

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Stan, Dick & I went out to Keilor on a Friday morning. The day was overcast & looked alittle ominous, espically after the day before which rain contatnly. We went out there none the less like lemmings to the cliff top & I’m glad we did. The day didn’t look the best but was pretty good golfing conditions. The greens were receptive after the days rains but so were the fairways 😉 This was my first trip out here to Keilor & was pretty impressed I must say. The course was in great nick. The fairways, although a little soggy in places, was in good condition. Tghe greens were fantastic. Not only were they in good nick they were also very challenging. The is the first time I have seen a golf course with back to back par 3, not that any of us par either of them 🙂

There is a more detailed review of the course here.

One thing that did piss me off a bit was I forgot my camera. Doh!!!!! So unfortunatly there are no photos at this stage. On the upside, I really enjouyed playing here so I will be back & next time I’ll bring the camera.

For the record Stan & Dick were neck & neck all day. In the end Dick just pipped Stan by a shot. I was a class above both of them & won by 10 shots 😉

Yearly Trip to Tocumwal

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Time to put your hand up if your coming on the yearly trip. The date for this little adventure is Friday the 6th of October, leaving in the afternoon, Saturday the 7th & Sunday the 8th. I emailed Rich River a couple of times & got no response so we decided to play Tocumwal Golf Course instead. You can have a look at the course here. We have booked the two rounds for the two courses already, which is a good thing as they are nearly booked out already. To play a different course each day we had to take an early morning tee time both days. Shane has been kind enough to offer us his caravan at the Cobram caravan park & Daryl has also offered to bring his camper trailer along as well. This will reduce the cost of the weekend a fair bit, thank guys.

We need to find out who’s coming so we can arrange the transport & the sleeping arrangements, so please, email me or leave a comment here if you want to come. Also send me an email of leave a comment if you have an questions about the trip. My email address is Cary@golfinmelbourne.com hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers

Craigieburn on Sunday the 13th of August

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Ian has picked & booked us into Craigieburn on Sunday the 13th of August. After the Lancefield round fell through we set Ian the task of picking a course to play. This is Stans home course but I have a feeling he wont be able to make it as he will be working which is shame. Tee off is for 11:15 so you can still get your beauty sleep Neil (god knows you need it). Ian has booked us 2 groups with one of them full already, if you want to join us get in quick. Send me an email or leave a comment if you’re up for it.

There are a couple of photos of the course here

Whittlesea 4 ball

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

The day started off with a few phone calls amongst the four of us to determine if we wanted to play. After Saturdays down pour, we were a little sceptical about playing but we all decided to give it a go. The day couldn’t have been much better. No wind & a pleasant temperature made for perfect golfing conditions.

We had four players for our little four ball comp & the teams were Dick & Stuart & Neil & myself, I knew I was in trouble when I got paired with Neil ; ) The first hole started off with a pair of pars & the second hole set the pattern for the day. Neil & I were on the green with our best ball & Staurt & Dick were over the back. We managered to three putt our way to a 4 were as they manged to sink a great putt for another par, one shot down after 2 holes. We were evenly matched over the next few holes until the 5th & 6th. Somehow the cheats managerd to par the toughest hole on the course & follwo that up with a birdie with another brilliant putt on the 6th which gave them a two shot advatage after my partner boggied the same hole, it was Neils fault not mine. We managed to redeem ourselve on the par 3 8th, or I should say I redeems us ; ) A nice tee shot over the pin & one putt back for a birdie. Stuart & Dick went one over on the hole putting us back to 2 shots down which is where we stayed after the front.

The back nine belonged to Dick & Stuart, some great driving & some fantastic putting saw them put the sword to Neil & myself on the closing holes. On the tought back to back par 5’s Stauart & Dick scored par birdie leaving Neil & myself blamming each other for some pretty average shots ; )

In the end Stuart & Dick were the victories with a score of 81 to 88. We had a great day & it is a fun format to play. The cousre was in pretty good condition considering the drenching we recived on Saturday. The fairways had alittle bit of water on them but not enough to ruin the round. The greens were a real suprise. The was water coming out of the ground under your feet on a few leading you to think they would be slow but tis wasn’t the case. They were still of a nice pace & held true to their lines.

As I said before we had a great day & it is a format that we will be playing again in the future but next time I want a different partner ; )

Our round at Freeway

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Since my last trip out to Freeway golf course quite a few holes have changes on the front nine. The 1st is now no longer a long par three it is a par 5, just a little bit different ; )

One thing about his course that is anoying is there is no direction from green to tee & then when you find the tee there is no indication of where the fairway goes. You need to find a metal plate in the ground to confirm you are on the right tee. Anyway enough bitching on to the round.

Stan, Neil, Dick & I made it out on Thursday morning. If we believed the weather forecast we may have pulled the pin. In the end it was great day for golf.

The fairways were a little wet under foot, there hasn’t been all that much rain so I wouldn’t want to play here after a week of soild rain (sorry I said no more bitching). The greens felt soft but were still pretty quick. With the mounded greens this can makes things a little tricky. Stan found out the hard way on the 5th green. He run his ball over the edge of the hole & it kept on running off the green, very stiff. That was Stans lot for the day, the amount of putts his missed by the narrowest of margins was a crime. Three putts were the order of the day, very occasionally we had a one putt.

We all started off with horror holes, I managed the only birdie of the day on the next & no body had any joy until the back nine. Neil & Stan both started off the home leg with pars & Dick was happy not to put his ball in the water. Dick was next to get a par on the 13th. After that I was had a nice run of pars on the 15th, 16th & 17th & only just missed my par putt on the last for a perfect run home.

We had a great day out, the weather was kind even if the putting wasn’t. Hopefully Stan is going to arrange a day out at his home course Craigieburn in the near future.

Cheers

Yarrambat on the 27th of May

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Neil, Stuart, Dick & myself started out at Yarrambat at 10.10 on Saturday morning. It was a beautiful day, low cloud cover but no wind what so ever. The day begun well with everyone making it past the ladies tee, Dick was a bit worried because he had played only once in the last 3 years. The course was in magnificent condition, the fairways were fantastic & the greens were very challenging. There was no such thing as an easy putt today, if you had a three foot putt you just as easy finished four foot past the hole as you did making the putt. We had quite a few three putts on the days round. Neil was the first one to break the par draught & it took until the 6th hole . Stuart quickly followed with the next putt on the same hole. After that I went on a birdie blitz!!! I scored birdies on the last three holes on the front nine, the best birdie streak I’ve every had. As you could imganine you couldn’t get the smile off my face.

Let’s not talk about the back nine, nothing special happened there. After my birdie spree I thought I would let someone else take the spot light but nobody did.

In the end Stuart won with a 91 I followed with a 95 (let’s not talk about the back nine) Neil was next with a 105 & Dick followed with a pair of 56’s

It was a perfect day for golf, no wind & the the greens were receptive to chip shots, they just weren’t receptive to putts ; )
