Epping RSL at Whittlesea on the 24th of February

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

There was a big group out her for “Brooka”. Around 54 people turn up to have a crack. The event was both stableford & stroke. The stableford points carried over from the last two round plus the round in about a month to have a stableford champ. I played with 3 lovely blokes & had a ball. After the round we had a couple of beers at Whittlesea & then back to the RSL for a BBQ. It was a great day. As far as scores go I shot a 67 net & 40 stable ford points & didn’t get a look in 🙁 I did win a hat & a stubbie holder for the longest drive on the 17th 🙂

Freeway on the 11th of October

Friday, October 12th, 2007

John, Stuart, Dick & myself went out too Freeway on Thursday the 11th. It was a gorgeous day & we got away at 9 in the morning. It’s been a few months since I’ve played here & the have done extensive work around the course with new bunkers. They look fantastic!! I didn’t land in any so I can’t attest to the quality of the sand but they have added a number of deep greenside bunkers around the course & they look very intimidating. The fairways were in great condition but the greens left a little to be desired. There wasn’t a problem with putting, the ball rolled pretty true & even paced. The problem was with your approach shots. There was no reward for a good shot, the ball just run through the green. It was pretty frustrating. Having said that I thought the course looked fantastic & we got off just before the weather changed. With any luck we will be getting out a bite more over the next few months.

Cheers

A joke from Stan

Monday, May 14th, 2007

One lovely morning, Ben and Thomas were out golfing.

Ben slices his ball deep into a wooded ravine. He maintains his positive attitude and grabs his 8-iron proceeding down the embankment into the ravine in search of his ball. He trudges diligently through the thick underbrush and suddenly he spots something shiny. As he gets closer, he realizes that the shiny object is in fact an 8-iron in the hands of a skeleton which has obviously been lying near an old golf ball for a number of years.

Ben excitedly calls out to his golfing partner: “Hey Thomas, come here, I got big trouble down here.”

Thomas comes running over to the edge of the ravine and calls out: “What’s the matter Ben?”

Ben shouts back in a nervous voice: “Better throw me my 7-iron! Something tells me I won’t be getting out of here with an 8-iron.”

The Storm are 6 from 6

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

The Melbourne Storm are off to the best start to a season in the clubs history. 6 wins from 6 games. The latest vistory was over the Penrith Panthers at Olympic park. Robyn Roger & myself went out to watch the game on a drizzly Melbourne night (don’t complain we need the rain). It’s a good thing we paid the extra for the under cover seats with our membership 😉

I think this was the best the Storm have played in attack so far this year. It was a massive effort of Cameron Smith & Matt King to play on Saturday night after a test match against New Zealand the night before. The guys are tough.

Grand final replay this week against Brisbane, can the Storm make it 7 from 7?????

Melbourne Storm V New Zealand Warriors

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Melbourne put on a perfect day for the Storm V the Warriors today. The Storm started brilliantly with a couple of quick tries. Billy Slater got robbed or a contender for try of the year when the Warriors got a penalty for taking a man out, the fact the man was nowhere near the ball is obviously immaterial. The Storm got past this injustice to get up, it was a great day out. Go Storm!!!!!!!

Hidden Valley

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

It started off as a good day, well for some of us. Stan had a little car trouble & couldn’t get there for tee time. He wasn’t the only one who wanted to be there but couldn’t make it. With Monday being a public holiday it made it a little hard for a few to take two days off in a week.

The people who actually made it were, me, Dick, John & Neil. On trhe way to the course Neil uttered those fateful words “There is no way that it could possible rain today” 🙂 Thankfully it didn’t rain too much. Just for a couple of holes. The sad thing is that Hidden Valley, & the rest of Victoria for that matter, could have done with a lot more rain. Nothing showed this up as much as the 13th hole. To me this is the best hole on the course with a double water carry from the back tee. Here is what the hole used to look like

Now there is practicaly no water left in this lake. It is a shame for Dick & John who haven’t played this course before. All though it dosen’t change the way you play this hole, the lack of water does distract from the asthetics of one of the best holes that I have played.

Other than the 13th you wouldn’t know there is a draught. The fairways are just as lush & the greens as just as green. The course is still in fantastic condition. I had a little trouble trying to find the pace of the greens, some were a little quicker than others, but other than that there were no excuses. Dick was the only one on the day to walk away with a bird, but if I remember rightly everyone else walked away with at least one par. I think I finished with 6, I’m sure Neil will correct me if I’m wrong 🙂

Once again I have to thank Justin Hopper at Hidden Valley for looking after us with another fantastic deal. It is always a pleasue to play here at Hidden Valley, the staff are great & the price just can’t be beat. If you haven’t played here I can’t recomened it enough.

Merry Christmas.

Storm go down in the Grand Final

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

The Melbourne Storm went down to the Brisbane Broncos in slightly disappointing fashion on Sunday night. The referee played a big part in the game & unfortunately most of the bad calls went against the Storm 🙁

But let’s not dwell on what didn’t happen. Winning the minor premiership by 8 points is a fantastic effort but I’m sure this is of little consequence without the trophy at the end of the year.

Well done Liam!!!!!

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Micks young son Liam scored his first birdie the other day on the par 3 17th at Bundoora. He drove the ball to the edge of the green & one putted for his bird. It is a fantastic effort by Liam & his dad is understandably very proud. Well done Liam, if you keep going at this rate you’ll be beating your old man sooner rather than later 🙂
