Mandalay at Beveridge

Monday, March 16th, 2015

Took a day off work to have a hit out in Beveridge with Matt & Neil. First time I hav eplayed the full 18 holes out there. The course was in incredible condition, fairways & greens were close to perfect 🙂 They are still building out here, the club house at the moment is just a temporary one but the new on is coming along nicely & is huge. I enjoyed the game out here but one thing you nee dto keep in mind is that Beveridge is a very flat & open place. The wind, if there is a breath any where else, will blow out here. The course itself is very open as well making the wind one of the biggest obstacles you will have to over come.

Having said all that $50 for a round including a cart during the week is pretty good value & I would recommend everyone come up for a hit 🙂

Whittlesea

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

Had a hit out out Whittlesea on Sunday with Luke & Jamie. Was surprised that the day wasn’t too bad. We got caught on the last couple of holes with a couple of showers but it could have been worse. The course was in pretty good nick for this time of year & the greens were still suprisling fast. First time I had hit with Jamie & he is very consistant, down the middle. I was happy with my driving, I don’t think I shanked one of them But my short game sucked I bladed 4 or 5 sand irons next to the green, I haven’t done that in years.

9 holes at Whittlesea

Saturday, January 11th, 2014

Josh, Neil Luke & I headed up to Whittlesea for a hit. We only played 9 holes & we started on the 10th. The course was in great nick. The fairways are looking food & so are the greens. There is plenty of water in the dams so the place looks great. I like what they are doing up there since the new people have taken over. The pro shop is great & the “new” clubhouse is fantastic. I started off really well, paring the first hole, we played off the white tee’s which the first time I have done that, it changes the course quite a bit.

We had a  great day, Neil didn’t lose the plot until the last few holes 😉 I think at one point he throw his club further the=an he hit the ball 🙂

Yering Meadows

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013

Well that was fun. Neil took me out to Croydon Golf Club, situated just outside of Yarra Glen, just in case you were wondering 😉 Very unimpressed with the front 9 but the back 9 more than made up for it. The back 9 was fantastic, which may cause an issue because Neil’s GPS had a melt down in the back 9. Apparently there are 27 holes here at Yering, we played  the traditional 18 (well according to the card but not Neils GPS) & I was a little underwhelmed with the front 9. The back 9 was awesome 🙂 There were a lot of grounds staff about, they have a Pro Am on Friday, but the one thing that got me all day was the pace of the greens. I could not get used to how slow they were 🙁 They felt quick walking on them, they look quick after 2 days of heat, but I think I hit the ball past the hole once all day. Anyway, me & Neil had a ball…… once we stopped counting shots . Wasn’t the best of days for golf. Blowing a gale one minute nothing the next, 50 million flies, sun, rain, popped buttons, we had it all 🙂 I think I lost about 5 or 6 balls, most of them into water I didn’t see, Neil was about the same. Hit a nice tee shot then get down to where the ball should be & go “Crap” but, this is the beauty of the course, there was a par 3 with a bunker no where near the green, water in front of the green, Neil & I both said “What a stupid place to put a bunker” then both preceded to but a ball in said bunker 🙁 I would love to get back out to this course & have another look at the front 9 with a better attitude or look at this  “other 9” that they have 🙂

Hidden Valley

Sunday, October 13th, 2013

A group of 10 of us headed out to Hidden Valley yesterday. Gorgeous day for golf. They had a great deal going $40 per person for golf & a cart 🙂 The course is in great nick with the fairways lush & the lakes & dams full. A couple of small things though. The bunkers are looking a little neglected, thin on sand in some spots & grass growing inside the bunkers in others. The pace of the greens was a little hard to judge as well. All in all though, I do enjoy playing this course, especially the 13th with the double water carry 🙂

Now with the weather getting better, I’ll be looking to arrange a lot more golf, so watch this space 😉

Portsea for Neil’s birthday

Monday, June 17th, 2013

Neil, Matt, Dick & myself headed out to Portsea to celebrate Neil’s birthday.
The course has been reconfigured & the car’s GPS took us to the old carpark. Keep in mind if you are heading out here to put the new address into your GPS J Speaking of GPS, all of our golf GPS units & apps had the old layout on them. After speaking to the guy in the proshop most of the companies who run the GPS units have been asked to update them so download a new version before you head out.
The course was in great nick which, considering all the rain we had last week, is a great advertisement for the sandbelt J
We had a ball out here (as we always do). Speaking of balls I played with some Calloway rocks which seemed to straight out my drives, thank Matt J It was an interesting day, Neil managed to through his club further than his drive, Dick managed to hit a ball twice on a chip shot & put his self in the bunker with the second shot & I needed Matt to double check my score in the club house J
It was an enjoyable course & would like to come back again in the future

Yarrambat with the RSL

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Headed out to Yarrambat with the Epping RSL on Sunday. 9 am tee off which is quite a respectable time for them 🙂 Played a varation on Stroke called Par, which is basically a plus if you go under par on a hole, a minus if you go over & a 0 if you par it. First time I have played this & didn’t have the best of days. Still waiting for my handicap from the club as I took a year away from them so I was playing off scratch, it didn’t end well 😉 I still counted stroke so I could put in a card but that wasn’t pretty either. The course is in pretty good nick, with the fairways having a good covering & the greens running true. Found myself ion one bunker & the sand was OK, nothing special but nothing wrong with it either.

Next hit with them I believe is Heathcote, which will be a bus trip leaving bright & early from the RSL. If you want more info leave a comment or drop me a line

Moonah Links Open course

Sunday, April 14th, 2013

Headed out to Moonah Links to play the open course with Neil, Matt & Ron.  Ron is heading home soon so Matt is trying to get in as many rounds as he can before he leaves. The course was in beautiful condition, the fairways were immaculate & the greens were near on perfect. Neil was on fire early on & was struggling a bit. Of the 2 courses at Moonah Links it’s a bit hard to split them. Both look fantastic, have well placed bunkers & fantastic greens. We used a voucher to play out here on this occasion & it worked out to be about $50 each which included a cart & a bucket of balls for the driving range before the game. If you get the chance play one or both of these courses, I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Whittlesea on the 30th

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

The last round of the year was out at my local, Whittlesea. It’s been a few years since I have been up here. The new clubhoues has been completed & open for buisness. The 10th has had a lot or work done to it since I was last here with a massive a mout of dirt being trucked in. The course is resonable condition. A few of the fairways were like concrete in places but lush in othere. The green were soft under foot but still had a bit of pace to them. If you are looking for a country course to play, I recommend Whittlesea, just don’t expect conditions like Growling Frog 😉
