Our round at Freeway

July 6th, 2006

Since my last trip out to Freeway golf course quite a few holes have changes on the front nine. The 1st is now no longer a long par three it is a par 5, just a little bit different ; )

One thing about his course that is anoying is there is no direction from green to tee & then when you find the tee there is no indication of where the fairway goes. You need to find a metal plate in the ground to confirm you are on the right tee. Anyway enough bitching on to the round.

Stan, Neil, Dick & I made it out on Thursday morning. If we believed the weather forecast we may have pulled the pin. In the end it was great day for golf.

The fairways were a little wet under foot, there hasn’t been all that much rain so I wouldn’t want to play here after a week of soild rain (sorry I said no more bitching). The greens felt soft but were still pretty quick. With the mounded greens this can makes things a little tricky. Stan found out the hard way on the 5th green. He run his ball over the edge of the hole & it kept on running off the green, very stiff. That was Stans lot for the day, the amount of putts his missed by the narrowest of margins was a crime. Three putts were the order of the day, very occasionally we had a one putt.

We all started off with horror holes, I managed the only birdie of the day on the next & no body had any joy until the back nine. Neil & Stan both started off the home leg with pars & Dick was happy not to put his ball in the water. Dick was next to get a par on the 13th. After that I was had a nice run of pars on the 15th, 16th & 17th & only just missed my par putt on the last for a perfect run home.

We had a great day out, the weather was kind even if the putting wasn’t. Hopefully Stan is going to arrange a day out at his home course Craigieburn in the near future.

Cheers

Freeways on Thursday the 6th of July

June 29th, 2006

I have booked a round of golf at Freeway. At this point I have only booked for 4 people, if we get more than that we can book another group. Yes Cookie, I know it’s another weekday, but it’s State of Origin the night before at Telstra Dome so I took the next day off. Let’s hope the weather is like is today. If you want to come send me an email of leave a comment on this posting.

 Cheers

Leave a comment on this posting or send me an email if you would like to join Neil on his birthday, it doesn’t mean we have to let him win.

Yarrambat on the 27th of May

May 27th, 2006

Neil, Stuart, Dick & myself started out at Yarrambat at 10.10 on Saturday morning. It was a beautiful day, low cloud cover but no wind what so ever. The day begun well with everyone making it past the ladies tee, Dick was a bit worried because he had played only once in the last 3 years. The course was in magnificent condition, the fairways were fantastic & the greens were very challenging. There was no such thing as an easy putt today, if you had a three foot putt you just as easy finished four foot past the hole as you did making the putt. We had quite a few three putts on the days round. Neil was the first one to break the par draught & it took until the 6th hole . Stuart quickly followed with the next putt on the same hole. After that I went on a birdie blitz!!! I scored birdies on the last three holes on the front nine, the best birdie streak I’ve every had. As you could imganine you couldn’t get the smile off my face.

Let’s not talk about the back nine, nothing special happened there. After my birdie spree I thought I would let someone else take the spot light but nobody did.

In the end Stuart won with a 91 I followed with a 95 (let’s not talk about the back nine) Neil was next with a 105 & Dick followed with a pair of 56’s

It was a perfect day for golf, no wind & the the greens were receptive to chip shots, they just weren’t receptive to putts ; )

Time to start thinking about our yearly trip

May 8th, 2006

It’s time we started to get some input in regards to our end of year trip. What we are looking for is ideas on where to go & when people are available. At this stage we have pencilled in the end of September but this can change if more people can’t make it than can.

As for where to go we have a had a couple of suggestions already. One idea is to go back to Cobram but this time play the two course at Tocumwal.

A second idea is to go to Echuca & play the two Rich River courses.

The third idea is go up to Bright & play a couple of the courses up there.

We need your input on this people so please either leave a comment on this posting or send me an email.

GolfinMelbourne.com hit the Valley

April 20th, 2006

We had a nice group that made it out to Hidden Valley. In the end we had 7 of us that could get a Thursday off work. Colin unfortunately was called away at the last minute & couldn’t make it. Trevor thought that it was going to rain & decided not to come, bad call Trev. According to the weather forecast today was supposed to be a shocker for golf, but as is the case with Melbourne forecasts mean nothing. We had a gorgeous morning for our early tee time. The sun was shining & even with Stan putting the moz on us, the wind didn’t get up toooo much.

The groups that played were Stan, Michael, Ian & Neil with Shane, Mick & myself in the group behind (for the front nine). The course was in magnificent condition, the fairways were lush & after a days rain the greens were nice & soft.

The closet the pin comp was taking out by Mick on the 9th (jackpot of two holes) & by Ian on the 18th (again a jackpot of 2 holes).

At the end of the day we all had a ball, Hidden Valley is one of the best courses that I have played. The staff are fantastic & so is the course.

When it come to scores, I’m not sure what the story was all I know is I won with a 91 ; )

Hidden Valley revealed

April 6th, 2006

GolfinMelbourne has a great relationship with Hidden Valley & we will be continuing this on Thursday the 20th of April.

This will be an early one with the tee time being 8 o’clock in the morning. We have booked for two groups at this stage so let me know if you are in.

Justin out at Hidden Valley has done us a fantastic deal, send me an email if you want some details.

For our members that haven’t played at Hidden Valley, I can’t recommend strongly enough that you join us for this round. It is one of the best courses in Melbourne. The par 3 18th would be one of the best finishing holes in the country. So take a day off work & get your butts out to Hidden Valley.
