Cape Schanck on the 6th of December

December 7th, 2007

A group of 6 of us headed out to Cape Schanck to celebrate my birthday. There was Dick, Shane, Neil, Trevor, Stuart & myself. We had a near perfect day for our little adventure, clear blue skies with a little bit of wind.

The course is one of the best that I have played at, from the first hole it is a gorgeous course to both look at & play. The fairways are perfect & well looked after the greens are HUGE with massive undulations through them, it is quite easy to 3 & even 4 putt on these greens if your leave your self a long way from the hole. Some of the greens looked to be 20 to 30 metres long!!

There are so many things to mention about this course that I can’t do them all justice is this little review so I wont try. There are a couple of thing I would like to point out.

There are back to back par 3’s on the front nine. The 172 metre 4th followed by the 137 metre 5th. The par 3 7th & the par 5 8th both have water in play off the tee. The 8th is a spectacular hole, in my option the best on the course.

On the back 9 there were a couple of holes that I would like to mention. The 12th is a 334 metre par 4. The hole has a blind tee & doglegs to the right. The green is well below you for your approach shot, it makes for a very interesting hole.

The other hole is the 153 metre par 3 14th. It is another gorgous hole, with a ocean back drop. The second private course here at Cape Schanck is visible from here as well.

Another thing of mention about Cape Schanck was the staff. They were pleasant & very helpful. We had a group of 6 & they charged each of us for half a cart even though 2 of us were in a cart by our selves.

We had a great day out & would like to thank everyone who came out especially Shane & Stuart who drove us all out there. Thanks for making it a great day.

Craigieburn on the 15th of November

November 16th, 2007

Dick & John took off to Cragieburn for their Thursday round of golf. This was Johns first time here & Dicks second or third. Both say that they enjoyed the round & the course. The fairways & greens were in brilliant condition. According to Dick, all of the renovations around the course have been completed with the walk from the par 3 around the lake becoming a feature instead of a hindrance.

From the sounds of things Craigieburn is in good nick & well worth the effort. I hope to make the trip some time soon.

Yarrambat on the 8th of November

November 8th, 2007

John Dick & myself went out to Yarrambat on a picture perfect day for golf. I was at work for an hour & thought bugger this, I’m hooking up with the old man & John for their usual Thursday game of golf. The course is in Mickey Mouse condition. The fairways were brilliant & the greens were fantastic. We had a passenger for the front 9 who was a nice enough bloke but talked himself up a bit too much, worst of all he didn’t deliver. On the back nine John went nuts!!!! He par the first 3 holes (one of each a 4 a 5 & a 3) & played out of his skin. It is probably the best 9 holes I have seen him play. Dick was driving like a pro, except for the 9th but let’s pretend that didn’t happen 😉 Down the middle all day long. His score at the end of the day showed what centre golf will give you. Nothing flashy but very concistant. No par run for Dick but he still beat John by a shot.

I’m sure I say this every time I play here but I do love this course. The fairways are wide & the greens, on most holes, are very receptive. I can’t wait to get back out here again soon.

Ivanhoe 26th of October

October 29th, 2007

Stuart, Paul, Bradon, Bruce, Dick & I went out to Ivanhoe on Friday the 26th of October. It was great day for golf, no wind, not too hot & not too cold (sounds like a fairy tale 😉 ) The course was in great nick, the greens looked a little long but the where even paced & run true. The fairways were in perfect condition. One problem we all had with the course was the tee boxes. It was impossible to find a level area to hit from. The best shot of the day would have to go to Paul who drove the green on the short par 4 14th. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Ivanhoe & hopefully it wont be as long until next time. I really enjoy playing here, except of the tee boxes & the hill you have to climb over & over again, it one of my favorites courses 🙂

Freeway on the 11th of October

October 12th, 2007

John, Stuart, Dick & myself went out too Freeway on Thursday the 11th. It was a gorgeous day & we got away at 9 in the morning. It’s been a few months since I’ve played here & the have done extensive work around the course with new bunkers. They look fantastic!! I didn’t land in any so I can’t attest to the quality of the sand but they have added a number of deep greenside bunkers around the course & they look very intimidating. The fairways were in great condition but the greens left a little to be desired. There wasn’t a problem with putting, the ball rolled pretty true & even paced. The problem was with your approach shots. There was no reward for a good shot, the ball just run through the green. It was pretty frustrating. Having said that I thought the course looked fantastic & we got off just before the weather changed. With any luck we will be getting out a bite more over the next few months.

Bundoora next Saturday 30th of June

June 22nd, 2007

How does Bundoora next Saturday sound?? A lot will depend on the weather I’m guessing. I’ve spoken to someone who played out here last week & they said the cousre is in pretty good nick. There are a couple of holes that are stuffed, no grass on them, but the majority is OK. Let me know if you want to come along by email or leaving a comment here. I haven’t booked a Tee time as yet, when I do I’ll post it here.

Neils Birthday at Goonawarra

June 13th, 2007

At 9 o’clock this morning this day didn’t look like it was going to happen, but this is Melbourne so give it a bit. By the time Neil, John & I teed off the day wasn’t too bad at all. A little chilly but dry & just a little breeze.

The course is in magnificent condition, the bit of rain we have had followed up by sunshine is perfect for fairways & greens. Neil & John haven’t been out to Goonawarra before & they were most impressed with the place, I must admit that I do enjoy playing here. Nice wide open fairways with well protected & true running greens. One thing to keep in mind here is that when it blows it blows. We got lucky today, as I mentioned, just a little breeze. The day turned a little sour on the last couple of holes when the sky’s opened up. The temperatue seemed to half, when it starts at 15 degrees it got a touch cool, hands turned blue & tempers got short 😉 Even with the wet finish it was a good day & I hope Neil enjoyed his birthday.
